With the official opening of fall hunting season this weekend, starting with Dove Season on Saturday, September 6th, we’d like to highlight some recent updates to Georgia’s hunting regulations. If you plan on participating in any hunting activities, we strongly encourage you to review the official regulations. A link is provided at the end of this article.
Dove Season
Dove Season opens this Saturday, September 6th. In the past, shooting could not begin until 12:00 noon on opening day, but that rule changed a few years ago—shooting may now begin at sunrise. The daily bag limit is 15 doves per hunter.
Early Season: September 6 – October 12
Second Season: November 22 – November 30
Third Season: December 9 – January 31
Deer Season
Archery: September 13 – October 10
Primitive Weapons/Muzzleloader: October 11 – October 17
Firearms: October 18 – January 11
New this year:
An early Youth-Only Firearms Season (under 16) will run October 11 – October 17.
Hunters may now wear fluorescent pink in addition to the traditional fluorescent orange (500 square inches) during firearms season.
Please note: Either Sex Days (doe days) vary by county. Refer to the official regulations for details in your area.
Final Thoughts
Georgia offers many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors this fall, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of them safely and responsibly. Staying informed and following regulations ensures a safe and memorable season for all.
